The old apron had broken up where it met the road. Patching it would have bought a year, maybe two. So the whole run came out — surface excavated, base re-graded, forms set down both edges — and a new slab went down from the street to the garage door.
Anyone can pour concrete. The part you're paying for is what goes underneath it, and you only find out who skipped it about four winters later.
